Let’s talk about ‘The Invincibles’

Chelsea finished with 95 points under Jose Mourinho, Liverpool with 99, and City with a perfect 100. All of these teams are outstanding, and they have broken numerous records along the road, but none of them can claim to have gone undefeated throughout the season.

That patent only belongs to Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal.

Arsenal went undefeated in all 38 games in the 2003-04 season. They won the league with a total of 90 points.

The achievement of being undefeated has never been replicated since.

26 victories, 12 draws, and 0 defeats. The Invincibles truly stand out as the best Premier League side ever!

So, let’s put that incredible 03/04 season under the microscope and vividly talk about it!

The Competition

Wenger and his men did not have an easy ride to the league’s victory, they had fierce competition throughout their way.

Alex Ferguson and his Manchester United were the defending champions and they were not going to bow down. This was the peak of the Ferguson-Wenger rivalry and both the clubs were eminent to outdo each other.

In the same season, Manchester United signed one exceptional teenager from Portugal. He played as a winger and his name was Cristiano Ronaldo.

On the other hand, there was a new competitor in town. Roman Abramovich brought Chelsea in the same year.

Now with the wallet size quadrupled, Chelsea signed some exceptional players like Hernan Crespo and Claude Makelele to join their already established players like Damien Duff and Joe Cole.

Chelsea was ready to challenge the old elites of Arsenal and United for the title.

The team

Arsenal typically used a 4-4-2 formation, though it may also be referred to as a 4-2-3-1 due to the manner Dennis Bergkamp dropped into the ‘No.10’ position between midfield and attack.

The team is best known for its attacking prowess. Thierry Henry was at the pinnacle of his talents, finishing second in the Ballon d’Or voting in 2003 and fourth in 2004, and even though Bergkamp was towards the end of his career, he had not lost his remarkable mobility or vision.

Robert Pires, a left-winger, supplied a secondary source of goals, scoring 14 in the league, while Patrick Vieira, a central midfielder, was both the team’s heart and intellect. On the right, Freddie Ljungberg was a ferocious box-to-box player who raised his game for the big occasion.

The Gunners were also excellent defensively, conceding only 26 goals. At center-back, Sol Campbell and Kolo Toure were a wonderful combination of athleticism and intelligence, Jens Lehmann brought international class in goal, while Ashley Cole and Lauren were a dynamic full-back duo.

Finally, champions

The Gunners‘ 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in February was a defining moment in the title race. Wenger’s team came back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Liverpool 4-2 at Highbury.

Finally, the title was sealed when Arsenal drew 2-2 with north London rivals Spurs at White Hart Lane, capitalizing on second-placed Chelsea’s loss to Newcastle.

On the final day of their unbeaten season, they defeated relegated Leicester City 2-1.

What Arsene Wenger accomplished was nothing short of magic. To go undefeated the entire season is truly a remarkable feat. A feat that no other manager including Ferguson and Pep has achieved.

Arsenal 03/04, undoubtedly the best team ever in English football.

Arsenal to Barcelona: The best transfers

On the deadline day of the winter transfer window, Barcelona signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after he terminated his contract with Arsenal. The player signed a contract until 30 June 2025 with an option to agree departure on 30 June 2023, and his buy out clause is 100 million euros.

The Gabonese striker is the ninth player who moved from London to the Catalan club. The eight other players who left Arsenal for Barcelona in the past years were:

Aleksandr Hleb

Thomas Vermaelen

Alex Song

Emmanuel Petit

Marc Overmars

Giovanni van Bronckhorst

Cesc Fabregas

Thierry Henry

Let’s have a look at the players who had great success after the big move:

Cesc Fabregas

Fabregas came through La Masia, Barcelona’s youth academy, leaving at 16 when he was signed by Premier League club Arsenal in September 2003. He was a well-established player in the first XI of the Gunners after several injuries.

After a long spell with Arsenal, he returned to Barcelona in 2011. During his three-year spell at the Camp Nou, Fabregas played alongside Xavi and Andres Iniesta and won a La Liga title, the Copa del Rey, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup and two Spanish Super Cups. He returned to London in June 2014 to Arsenal’s cross-town rivals Chelsea for a fee of 30 million pounds, and in his first year there, he helped to secure League Cup and Premier League triumphs.

Thierry Henry

One of the most decorated footballers in the history of European football. Henry made his professional debut with Monaco in 1994 before signing for defending Serie A champions Juventus. He joined Arsenal in 1999 for 11 million pounds.

Under long-time mentor and coach Arsene Wenger, Henry became a prolific striker and Arsenal’s all-time leading scorer with 228 goals in all competitions. He won the Premier League Golden Boot a record four times won two FA Cups and two Premier League titles with the club, including one during an unbeaten season dubbed The Invincibles. He spent his final two seasons with Arsenal as club captain, leading them to the 2006 UEFA Champions League Final.

In June 2007, he transferred to Barcelona. In the 2008–09 season, Henry was a crucial part of the club’s historic treble when they won La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Champions League. In 2010, he joined New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer but returned to Arsenal on loan for two months in 2012, before retiring in 2014.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst

Van Bronckhorst was part of an Arsenal side that memorably won the Premier League in 2002, sealing the victory at the home of fierce rivals Manchester United.

In 2003, he joined Barcelona from Arsenal on a loan deal and in 2004, he moved on a permanent transfer. He was an instrumental player in Barcelona’s 2005–06 UEFA Champions League victory, being in the starting line-up of the final, having played every Champions League match for Barcelona that season.

What Do Arsenal Need to Become Top Four Regulars?

Emirates Stadium” (CC BY 2.0) by oddsock

Arsenal are seemingly working their way back into top four contention, albeit quite slowly, and they are not there yet. However, there is certainly promise, and it seems like the team is on the cusp of being a top four challenger in the near future.

But what about being a top four regular, like they were in the past?

This season, Arsenal certainly have a chance, and are right in the mix now, with seemingly two places up for grabs behind Manchester City and Liverpool. The latest betting odds from Space Casino have Arsenal at 3.5 to finish in the top four. This puts them behind Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham in the betting, but certainly in the mix.

Behind these teams in the betting, the likes of West Ham and Wolves are considered outsiders, and with so many teams chasing down these final two positions, Arsenal are in a big battle, rather than just chasing one team.

The top four this season would be seen as an overachievement, with a top six finish being the aim for now. However, that is a step towards the top four in the future, but what is needed to make that step?

Increasing the Quality of Depth

One of the biggest issues we have seen with Arsenal is that they lack depth. Go back to their FA Cup loss to Nottingham Forest, when they played a handful of squad players and were lackluster, as mentioned by the BBC in their match report.

It is games like that one, where Arsenal rely on their squad players, that you can see the holes that are currently there. These are the players that need to be improved on, or added to, and by adding to them, they can also look to improve the starting eleven too.

Whether they go for a strategy to try and take some risks, in the hope that a player or two turn out to be first teamers from the depth that they bring in, or play it safe and bring in experienced players, remains to be seen. This is also something that will take time, Arsenal don’t have the spending power of some clubs, so can’t simply fix their problems in one transfer window.

With quality depth added to the team, Arsenal should be able to reach the top four, they are close enough to think that could be the difference. Stopping there is not going to be easy, but once you are in, and have the added prize money from playing in the Champions League, things do become easier from a financial perspective.

This may then allow Arsenal to make a proper transfer splash. Chelsea signed big in the summer, bringing in Romelu Lukaku, as covered by The Guardian; Manchester United also added many pieces, and they both did this thanks to Champions League money.

Get up there, thanks to adding strong depth pieces, and then like those two mentioned, Arsenal may be able to sign players of a standard that is good enough to keep them there.

Thank you AUBA

After a dramatic end to the winter transfer window, Arsenal fans hoped that the club would sign a new player to strengthen the attack instead of seeing their ex-captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leave. Arsenal released a club statement on their website stating, “Aubameyang leaves club by mutual consent.” Arsenal fans believe that the captain’s armband is cursed at their club. Aubameyang was given the captains role by their former manager Unai Emery, and this also continued under the current manager Mikel Arteta. Arteta has observed and stated that Auba has had disciplinary issues in recent years.

This was first seen in the North London derby last season when he was not part of the starting lineup, with Arteta citing disciplinary issues. This continued in this season when he was not part of the squad against Southampton in the Premier League while Arteta again cited disciplinary reasons. A few days later, Auba was removed from the captaincy role by the manager. Aubameyang was purchased from Dortmund on the deadline day of the winter transfer window for a then club-record fee of £56 million. However, the ending does not do enough justification. Four years later, he decides to leave the club and join the Spanish giants Barcelona on the same day.  Let us have a look at his time in Arsenal.

AUBAMEYANG 2018-22

He was bought into the club by Arsene Wenger to improve the attack. Scoring in his debut league game against Everton gave the fans what they wanted to see. He scored ten goals in his first half-season appearances and provided four assists in 13 league games. Auba was the last goal scorer for Arsenal under the spell of Arsene Wenger.  His goal-scoring form from the German league made him the leading man in attack.  Starting the new season under new manager Unai Emery, Auba scored his first season goal against Cardiff City.  In the 2018-19 season, Auba was on a roll and scored goals pretty often; this resulted in reaching the ten goals mark before anyone else in that season. He ended the season by scoring two goals against Burnley, making him the season’s top scorer alongside the Liverpool duo Salah and Mane with 22 goals. However, the ending of the season was pretty upsetting as they lost the Europa League finals to their London rivals Chelsea 4-1. He also won the Player of the Month for his five goals scored in September.

In the new season, 2019-20, he scored goals crucial in Arsenal’s successful season. Auba turned into a clutch player in the FA Cup, where he helped his team beat the defending champions Man City 2-0, scoring both the goals. They then played Chelsea in the finals of the FA Cup. Chelsea opened the scoring in the 5th minute, Auba then equalised in the 28th minute by converting a penalty and then scored the winner in the 67th minute. He became the first African to win the FA Cup as a captain. He finished the season with 22 league goals. Further, he could not continue the goal-scoring run in the next season, although the manager gave him enough chances.

Emmanuel Adebayor Continues To Try & Remain Relevant

Emmanuel Adebayor made sure that he would go down in Arsenal history as a player that was disliked by everyone, but it seems he is keen on continuing to stoke the flames of the fire that has since been burnt out.

Indeed, many Gooners will think their former striker is irrelevant now and is just a blotch on their past, although those who look for the best betting online sites available might want to consider that he does still play his football for Turkish giants Istanbul Basaksehir, therefore perhaps they may want to think of another team to bet on.

However, the former Arsenal man appears to be continuing with his hate for the club by participating in interviews that certainly does not help things currently being experienced at the club.

Having scored 62 goals and providing 24 assists in 144 appearances for the club, it seems he still holds a grudge over Arsene Wenger after the legendary boss told him he had no future at the Emirates Stadium.

Of course, Arsenal sold him in 2009 when he signed for Manchester City and decided to go on a run to the other end of the pitch and celebrate in front of the Gooners who had travelled that afternoon after netting a winner in the last minute; an action that would later cost him £25,000.

Speaking about the boss, he stated that Jose Mourinho was the best he had whereas Wenger was “fake” and the reason he has the hate for Arsenal.

“Mourinho is the one of the managers I loved and will always love,” Adebayor said to Turkish television programme Beyond The Game.

“He is one of the [most] honest managers I have met in my career, which is crazy because most of the managers are all kind of fake.

“As an example, I had a meeting with Arsene Wenger in his office when he told me I had to leave because he didn’t see my future anymore in Arsenal.

“So I didn’t have any other choice than joining Man City, who I was very happy to join.

“And the next day when I joined Manchester City I saw him doing a press conference in London saying that I wanted to leave because the money was big and everything and since that day that is where the hate for Arsenal came from.”

Now, whilst that was over 10 years ago, it seems he could not keep from sticking his oar in amid the ongoing situation that surrounds Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mikel Arteta after the Gabon international was banished from the squad due to a lack of discipline.

Adebayor believes the former Borussia Dortmund striker’s time at the Emirates is up, perhaps suggesting that bettors who have a betting bonus should look to place it on the Gabon international to arrive at a different club, whilst also leaving a scathing attack on the Gunners in the process.

“I know he’s going through a lot, because that’s Arsenal for you,” he said to Sky Sports News.

“They never knew how to forgive, so I know he went through a lot. He’s a fantastic player, I wish him all the best – I’ve sent him a message already.

“We just want him to bounce back. Whether we like it or not, he’s an African brother and we want him to keep representing Africa the way he was doing before.

“I don’t think so (if Aubameyang can succeed at Arsenal), this is what I know because it happened to me also.

“Not in the same way but in Arsenal, a way back I would be surprised [to see]. But he’s a great player so let’s see how it ends up.”

One thing you would have to agree on with Adebayor is that Aubameyang’s career at Arsenal does appear to have come to an end, although it would be hard to back the idea that they never forgive, especially when you look at everything that Granit Xhaka has gone through whilst wearing the club’s colours.

Is Arsenal still interested in Marco Asensio?

Safe to say the club’s seems to be heading on a good path having recorded straight four wins, three from the Premier League and the 3-0 smashing of AFC Wimbledon at the Emirates for the EFL Cup third round competition.

Next up, we travels on the way down to Falmer Stadium to take on Graham Potter’s Brighton and Hove Albion side in the Premier League. Ahead of this match, top-notch Premier League prediction service in the likes of Soccer-picks would no doubt have us strong favourite for all three points in this match.

So elsewhere, there are report we have not given up hope of signing Marco Asensio from Real Madrid, according to a report.

The Gunners had a £34m bid rejected for the winger in the summer, with Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti keen to keep him at the Bernabeu.

However, Asensio has started just two of the first seven La Liga games of the season and could be sold in January as Real Madrid look to raise funds for Kylian Mbappe and Erling Braut Haaland.

The Daily Star states that Mikel Arteta remains interested in taking the 25-year-old to North London and will make another bid for him once the transfer window re-opens.

Asensio showed his talent with a hat-trick in Real Madrid’s 6-1 win over Real Mallorca last week. Leicester City, Everton and Leeds United were all also interested in signing the Spaniard in the summer and it remains to be seen how the transfer saga will unfolds in January.

Arsenal predicted lineup vs Man City – Premier League

Holla, our torrid start to the 2021/22 Premier League continues and likely to be put to final test today as we prepares for a trip to the Etihad Stadium to take on the title holders Manchester City.

The 2-0 defeat at Brentford was followed up with another lost at home to Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea side. The below-par performances from the team has seen questions raised over the future of Mikel Arteta’s as the Gunners boss and a win today would go a long way to ease pressure up his sleeves.

That said, let take a look at our predicted lineup for today:

1. Between the sticks and in defence

Bernd Leno (GK) :- Aaron Ramsdale is gunning for his spot, but Leno will likely retain his place for a little while longer at least.

Cedric Soares (RB) :- With Hector Bellerin still pushing to leave, Arteta doesn’t have many options on the right. Expect Cedric to start ahead of Calum Chambers.

Rob Holding (CB) :- Gabriel is back in training but isn’t ready to return yet, while Ben White remains out with COVID-19, so Holding will keep his spot here.

Pablo Mari (CB) :- Injuries mean Arsenal don’t have any other options at centre-back. Mari will start.

Kieran Tierney (LB) :- The star of Arsenal’s defence, Tierney had a rough day against Chelsea but will be determined to bounce back with a bang for this one.

Prediction:

As a die-hard Gunner, I would never put a bet up against my club and owing that, I’m still of the opinion seeing my side get a point today at the Etihad, if not three points betting with soccer-tips.

2. Middle of park and the midfield

Granit Xhaka (DM) :- Once billed as a potential replacement for Rodri at Atletico Madrid, Xhaka will be directly up against the Spaniard on Saturday.

Albert Sambi Lokonga (DM) :- With Thomas Partey still out injured, Lokonga’s baptism of fire is set to continue.

Bukayo Saka (RM) :- Saka has been battling a minor knee injury but is likely to be fit enough to start.

Martin Odegaard (AM) :- Fresh off completing 60 minutes against West Brom in midweek, Odegaard will make his return to Premier League action against City.

Emile Smith Rowe (LM) :- Likely to start on the left on paper, expect Smith Rowe to rotate with Odegaard to try and overwhelm City’s back line.

3. In attack

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (ST) :- Back from COVID-19, Aubameyang should be ready to go for this one and he may end up rotating his time with Alexandre Lacazette, whose recovery from the virus is a little behind his team-mate’s.

Arsenal eyes move for Aaron Ramsdale and Sander Berge from Sheffield United

Arsenal are considering purchasing both Aaron Ramsdale and Sander Berge from recently relegated side Sheffield United this summer according to the Sheffield Star, with the Gunners reigniting their pursuit of the Norwegian midfielder.

23-year-old Ramsdale has been subject of interest from Mikel Arteta’s side for most of the summer, already having two bids knocked back for the keeper as they consider making a third offer.

Their interest in the shot-stopper has ramped up over the past couple of weeks, with Ramsdale’s European Championships campaign with England only finishing in mid-July after the Three Lions reached the final.

However, they are yet to meet the Blades’ £32m asking price with the 23-year-old still having three years remaining on his current deal at Bramall Lane – and are in no rush to cash in on him this summer.

Slavisa Jokanovic’s side are in a similar situation with Sander Berge whose contract in South Yorkshire doesn’t expire until 2024 either, but is likely to leave the club following their relegation with top-flight teams in England including Everton and Aston Villa and Italian clubs Napoli, Atalanta and Lazio all reported to be keeping an eye on the midfielder’s situation.

Arsenal were another side previously said to be monitoring the Norwegian, but this interest died down after refusing to meet his £35m valuation.

But with the Ramsdale deal hitting an obstacle and the Gunners still on the prowl for a new central midfielder, they believe they can lure the Championship side to the negotiating table with a sizeable lump sum for two of their most valuable assets, as per the Sheffield Star.

However, this potential move is only said to be a ‘plan’ at this stage – and it’s currently unclear whether they will press ahead and execute it between now and August 31st.

Although this could potentially be the least messy way for manager Jokanovic to sort out Ramsdale and Berge’s current situation at Bramall Lane, with intense interest in both failing to cease, the Blades still have every right to take a tough negotiating stance considering they both have long-term contracts at their current club.

Because of this, they could easily demand £65m-£70m for the duo in a potential double deal and after seeing Arsenal cough up £50m for Ben White at the end of last month, this could persuade the Blades to hold out for this sort of money.

However, the White deal could affect the Premier League side’s ability to complete these acquisitions this summer. There isn’t a bottomless pit of money at the Emirates Stadium and this is why they shouldn’t push Arsenal too hard for around £70m if they offer anywhere near that sum of cash.

In the end, the South Yorkshire outfit may decide to continue taking an uncompromising approach to these deals to ensure the duo remain at Bramall Lane and with this, majorly boost their chances of returning to the Premier League.

So this is a win-win situation for Jokanovic who will either have two top-quality players at his disposal or potentially a lot of money to play with in the next window or two.

Arsenal’s players-plus-cash offer for James Maddison rejected!

Leicester City have rejected Arsenal’s latest players-plus-cash offer for midfielder James Maddison, claims a report. Maddison has become Mikel Arteta’s number one attacking target, according to a number of sources.

“Arsenal are pursuing a deal” for the attacking midfielder, according to The Guardian. While football.london and Football Insider suggest Arteta has Maddison at the forefront of his thinking.

Arteta wanted to sign Martin Odegaard once again after his successful loan spell from Real Madrid last season. That deal looks out of reach though and the Gunners are now focused on Maddison.

The Guardian suggest Arsenal will have to make sales before pushing ahead for Maddison, who is understood to be open to a move.

Maddison is understood to be eager to push himself on to the international stage and thinks a move to Arsenal could elevate him.

Leicester, who qualified for the Europa League, are not under pressure to sell. The report though claims it is understood they could demand at least £60m for the 24-year-old, if he chases a move.

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has recently warned Arsenal away from Maddison, who remains under contract until 2024 after renewing his deal last summer.

“In conversations with the club, we don’t have to sell. That’s something that’s been made clear,” said Rodgers. The players want to stay. It’s a really exciting time at the club.

“There’s lots of gossip and speculation around but I’m loving working with the guys here. They love being here, and we certainly have no need to sell.

“So I would suspect we’re looking to keep our best players.”

Arsenal though have been encouraged by Maddison and the Gunners have in fact lodged a cash offer, along with Reiss Nelson and Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

That has been rejected by Leicester, who have “no interest” in the Arsenal duo. The outlet also claim Leicester’s price tag for Maddison is £70m.

Leicester have added Patson Daka, Boubakary Soumare and Ryan Bertrand to their squad. But in recent years they have made one big sale each summer.

Ben Chilwell, N’Golo Kante, Harry Maguire and Riyad Mahrez have all left the Foxes and Maddison could well follow that trend.

Leno’s replacement incoming: Arsenal speak to agent of Andre Onana

Arsenal are amongst the clubs to have spoken to the agent of Andre Onana in the last few days with the goalkeeper’s potential move to Lyon stalling, according to a report from Calciomercato.It.

Onana has been linked with a move away from Ajax for some time now. It was even claimed at the start of June that a move to Arsenal was imminent.

Obviously, that has not proved to be the case. But it would make sense if he indeed left the Eredivisie side before the window shut.

His contract expires next summer. And a host of clubs are interested. It had appeared that Lyon were set to win the race.

Calciomercato. It claims earlier via real money casino games, the Ligue 1 side and Ajax were closing in on agreeing a fee over the weekend. However, progress over a deal has stalled.

And that is because several clubs, including a number from England, have spoken to Onana’s agent in the last few days. His representative has also spoken to clubs from Italy and Spain.

One of the sides to have apparently made contact is Arsenal. It is claimed that the goalkeeper’s English admirers made their move with his agent recently visiting London.

The report adds however, that Lyon are yet to give up on getting a deal done. Onana’s situation is not ideal for any club looking at a move this summer. He is suspended until November due to a doping violation.

He also has the Africa Cup of Nations ahead in January. So he is set to miss a large portion of the season. Arsenal, of course, still have Bernd Leno on their books. Bet on Arsenal to finish in the top four next season on https://www.leroijohnny.com/fr. Meanwhile, they have been linked with Sam Johnstone and Aaron Ramsdale.

But it appears to be a smart move to keep Onana on their radar. It was not that long ago that he seemed to be deemed one of the best goalkeepers plying their trade in Europe.

Getting a move done this season may not pay off much over the coming campaign. But it could prove to be a fantastic piece of business in years to come. So Arsenal are surely right to remain in the mix.

Arsenal dealt huge transfer blow as target does not want move

Arsenal have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Leicester City midfielder James Maddison, with Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers reiterating the club’s firm stance that the England international is not for sale. Rodgers has said that none of his players want to leave the club, who enjoyed a successful campaign last term.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta still wants to sign a midfielder this summer, despite two recent additions in the position.

Thomas Partey arrived from Atletico Madrid in January while Arsenal recently announced the capture of Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht.

Arteta has lost last season’s loanees Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard, who have both returned to Real Madrid, leaving him with a lack of depth in the role.

Leicester’s Maddison has been earmarked as a target but would likely cost a huge fee to prise away from the FA Cup winners. Rodgers has insisted that the 24-year-old is not for sale and suggested that Maddison would like to remain.

The player enjoyed a successful 2020-21 campaign, scoring eight times in 31 Premier League appearances. However, he failed to even make Gareth Southgate’s 31-man provisional squad for Euro 2020.

The Northern Irishman said:

“In conversations with the club, we don’t have to sell.

“That’s something that’s been made clear. The players want to stay.

“It’s a really exciting time at the club.

“There’s lots of gossip and speculation around but I’m loving working with the guys here, they love being here, and we certainly have no need to sell.

“So I would suspect we’re looking to keep our best players.”

Goal reported in June that Maddison was of interest to Arsenal, who are midway through an overhaul of their first-team squad. Arteta and technical director Edu are replacing senior stars with fresh faces following a disappointing campaign.

The club finished eighth in the Premier League and next season will be their first not participating in a European competition for the first time in over a quarter of a century.

Ben White became Arsenal’s first marquee signing of the summer when he arrived in a huge £50million deal from Brighton last week.

White joins Lokonga and Nuno Tavares in moving to the Emirates Stadium. More deals have been targeted, with Arteta widely believed to be interested in an attacking midfielder and a forward.

Some of Arsenal’s most experienced stars have been linked with departures to facilitate a rebuild. Veteran defender David Luiz, 34, left the club when his contract expired at the end of June.

Bernd Leno, Hector Bellerin, Granit Xhaka, Willian and Alexandre Lacazette have all been the subject of reports suggesting that they could depart.

The Athletic have reported that Arsenal’s stance on Xhaka could reverse, though, with the midfielder close to agreeing a new contract. Xhaka has been widely linked with a move to Roma, where Jose Mourinho has been appointed as head coach.

Why Arsenal should forget Erling Haaland and pursue Dusan Vlahovic

Arsenal have been urged to sign the ‘best striker after Erling Haaland’ as former Italy forward Christian Vieri heavily praised Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic in a recent interview.

The forward has attracted interest from some of Europe’s top clubs including Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Juventus and Tottenham, with a rumoured £60million release clause being reported in Italy.

Vlahovic scored 21 goals in 37 appearances with Fiorentina last season, and the 21-year-old has emerged as real money casino sites one of Europe’s brightest talents tipped with greatest heights..

The Serbian’s prolific record has already caught the eye of former Serie A legend Vieri, who’s commendation will only further peak interest in the young sensation.

In a recent interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Vieri said:

“For his age, he is the best striker in Europe after Erling Haaland.”

He then added:

“He is a top striker and will score 20 goals easily next season.”

Vlahovic is currently in talks with Fiorentina to extend his contract beyond 2023 – which is when his current deal expires – and according to reports in Italy, this new deal could include a £60million release clause.

With the future of Alexandre Lacazette uncertain and club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang not getting any younger, Arsenal could land the 21-year-old for £60million and beat fierce rivals Tottenham to the Serbian’s signature. These two sides meet on Sunday lunchtime for a friendly match at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

Tottenham have been heavily linked with Vlahovic all summer due to the potentially imminent departure of star striker Harry Kane. And with the Englishman looking to force a move, the current Fiorentina forward could be a shrewd addition.

Arsenal have already spent big this window, signing Ben White, Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga for a combined £75million, so would have to sell some of their assets in order to fund the move, but it may be worth it due to the 21-year-old’s frightening potential.

If Tottenham were to sell Kane, they would have some £160million to inject into new signings and bolster their squad, so a move for Arsenal would not only strengthen their position, but potentially hurt a direct rival.

Arsenal haven’t bought too many players from the Serie A in their recent history, with Lucas Torreira being the most notable signing from Italy during the last decade.

However, the last time the Gunners signed a forward from the Italian first division was in 1999, as Thierry Henry joined from Juventus and went on to become the club’s leading goalscorer, netting 228 times during two stints in North London.

Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Juventus are also keeping tabs on Vlahovic, as the sides will be looking to find long-term replacements for Luis Suarez, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo respectively, with all three strikers in the latter stages of their career.

Three biggest flops in Arsenal’s history

Many famous football players have flourished when they made the move to Arsenal. Thierry Henry, one of the EPL top scorers, is one such player who achieved tremendous success after moving to the London side from Juventus. However, there are many examples of others who failed to shine at the Gunners, despite receiving many opportunities at the club.

Marouane Chamakh

Marouane Chamakh had made a big name for himself at Bordeaux. The former Morocco international had helped the Girondins win several major trophies, including the Ligue 1 in 2009. Famous for his excellent heading ability and link-up play, the forward notched 56 goals for the French side in 230 league appearances. When Chamakh joined Arsenal on a free transfer in the summer of 2010, fans were greatly excited to see his play at the Emirates Stadium. He looked very promising in the beginning for the Gunners but soon fell out of favour with Arsene Wenger after failing to make a big impact. During his time in London, he managed to score only eight goals in 40 league matches. Chamakh went on to join West Ham on loan in January 2013 before signing for Crystal Palace. Arsenal released him from the club after the expiration of his contract in 2014.

Nicklas Bendtner

Nicklas Bendtner is an academy graduate of Arsenal who spent a long time at the London side. However, his spell at the Gunners wasn’t successful on the whole, with his off-field antics, injuries and inconsistency stopping him from living up to his true potential. The Danish footballer made 171 appearances across all competitions for the Londoners, scoring 47 goals and creating 22 assists in the process (stats from Transfermarkt). Although regarded as a flop at Arsenal, Bendtner also had some memorable moments at the London side when he showed how good he can be on his day. One of these displays came in the 5-0 win over Porto in the Champions League quarter-finals in 2009. The forward smashed three goals to became the second player in the club’s history to earn a hat-trick in the European competition. He also has the distinction of scoring the fastest goal by a substitute in the Premier League, with the Dane striking against Tottenham Hotspur in 2006 six seconds after leaving the bench.

Shkodran Mustafi

Shkodran Mustafi is also one of the biggest flops at Arsenal. The Gunners splashed a tremendous £35 million to secure a deal for him in the summer of 2016. Before arriving in London, the centre-back had proved his skills at Sampdoria and Valencia. There were lots of expectations that he would do well at the Emirates Stadium. However, the German defender failed to make an impact at the Premier League outfit, despite being given plenty of opportunities. He developed a reputation for errors and so became a target of criticism from the Gunners’ fans. Mustafi clocked up 151 appearances across all competitions during his time at the club, netting nine goals and creating five assists in the process. Arsenal failed to finish in the Top Four last season. They are currently scouring the market for signing talented players like Ben White in this transfer window, as per thefootballreports.com.

Five Things We Learned: Arsenal 0-1 Manchester City (Premier League)

Raheem Sterling’s second minute header guided Manchester City to a staggering 18th win in a row. It’s a victory which maintains their 10 point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

It was a gritty, hard-fought performance from the Blues, with maybe one eye on the important Champions League Round of 16 first leg in midweek. The first 20 minutes were electric, but it was Raheem Sterling’s flicked header from a Riyad Mahrez cross that broke the deadlock.

After yet another win, here’s five things we learned from the game…

Ruben x John are the partnership for big games

Want to start this point by saying I have absolutely nothing against Aymeric Laporte – he’s a terrific footballer. But I just get this air of solidity whenever John Stones and Ruben Dias are partnered at the heart of the defence.

Again on Sunday, Arsenal’s front line never got a meaningful chance. Dias was even involved in the build up to the goal, playing a brilliant cross-field ball to Riyad Mahrez. The Portuguese international was rightly awarded MoTM by Sky Sports and I don’t suppose John Stones will have been far behind him.

Fernandinho rolling back the years

It was maybe a surprise to see Fernandinho on the team-sheet yesterday after a string of imperious performances from his positional counterpart, Rodri. However, the Brazilian still showed, even at 35-years-old, he’s still got immense quality.

If City’s forward line were not as wasteful, Fernandinho would’ve had a hand in a number of goals yesterday. Typical from him, cutting any Arsenal danger out at source and starting a counter attack of our own on numerous occasions.

Oh please Ferna, just sign an extension.

Wasteful City

There’s not really many negatives to take from winning your 18th game in a row to be honest, but missing lots of chances could be one to address.

I bring this up because with the Champions League up next, Guardiola will no doubt hammer the importance of being clinical to his players. After the first goal yesterday, the Blues could’ve easily been 3-0 up by the half hour mark if they took their clear cut opportunities. Mix that in with late chances for Joao Cancelo and Gabriel Jesus and it’s a recipe for disaster in a knockout competition.

Pep says rotation is key

One key thing to pick up post match is Pep Guardiola’s comments about rotation. He said; “People talk about the records but to do that you have to win games like this many, many, many, many times. We don’t have time to do anything, just recover and prepare mentally as strong as possible as a team.”

He also mentioned he’ll have to change players for the game midweek and then again for West Ham next Saturday. Even today, the brilliant Phil Foden was given a well earned rest and you’d expect him to return in midweek with the hectic schedule. The likes of Aymeric Laporte, Kyle Walker and Ferran Torres will all be important for Manchester City as they still look to compete on all four fronts.

18 in a row

Remarkable, truly remarkable. If it didn’t already, surely this run rivals the one we put together to win the title in 18/19. 18 wins in a row in all competitions, in a season like this, is a brilliant achievement.

In that run we’ve beaten Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal twice. From as low as 13th in the table in early November, City have managed to create a 10 point gap at the top of the table – and they’ve shown no signs of slowing down.

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS VS ARSENAL PREDICTION

Since their comeback win over Chelsea on December 15, Wolves have now gone eight games without a top-flight victory, as Crystal Palace were 1-0 winners over them on Saturday evening.

It seems fitting they entertain an Arsenal side rejuvenated since they lost the reverse fixture on November 29, as Mikel Arteta’s job security has improved substantially in the weeks following Wolves’ most recent Premier League victory.

They’re unbeaten in seven league games and held title-challenging Manchester United to a goalless draw on Saturday. How will the Gunners fare as they look to continue improving their sketchy away form?

Wolves vs Arsenal Betting Tips

Eberechi Eze’s moment of individual brilliance in the second-half proved decisive for Crystal Palace, as they were made to work hard for all three points against Nuno Espirito Santo’s men.

Vicente Guaita made four saves, captain Luka Milivojevic led by example in central midfield (five tackles, two clearances, one block and interception) while Michy Batshuayi and Wilfried Zaha missed big chances too.

Pedro Neto was Wolves’ best player (five dribbles, three key passes) but Real Sociedad loanee Willian José’s start to life in England has been uneventful so far. How will he and his teammates fare against an Arsenal backline with five clean sheets in their last six top-flight games?

Rob Holding has been consistent and dependable, Bernd Leno producing important saves at critical moments and Cedric Soares filling in well at left-back for the injured Kieran Tierney (calf).

Wolves vs Arsenal Correct Score Prediction

This is a tricky fixture to predict, especially when the pair are experiencing contrasting form as they are right now. Historically, Arsenal dominates (W8, D3, L2) but have one win in their last five meetings (L2, D2) and Molineux is a difficult place to go for visiting teams. I’m predicting BTTS here.
