Most people would agree that Premier League club Arsenal F.C. have done pretty well this summer transfer window and should call it over this summer, but the club feel adding a bit more defensive option to their squad as before the deadline looks a possibility.
Unfortunately for Emery, injuries to both Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac have left him short of options heading into the new season, with with Ainsley Maitland-Niles expected to fill in there against Manchester City.
If the latest reports make round, Arsenal’s permanent solution to this injury blow could be found in AC Milan’s Ricardo Rodriguez, with the Swiss international being linked with a £30m move to North London.
Rodriguez is a superb full-back and set-pieces specialist, securing his signing would likely see Monreal leaving Arsenal to return to Spain, with Real Sociedad said to be keen on taking him back to his homeland.
Monreal and Rodrgiuez stats at the beginning of February 2013 and the end of May 2017, shows little contrast between the two men’s was pretty stark, with the latter serving up a plethora of goals and assists for VfL Wolfsburg and his counterpart at Arsenal defending far more impressively.
Rodriguez, however, found his feet defensively in Serie A last season, where he registered 11 of the San Siro’s outfit 12 clean sheets, as well as gaining a real understanding of the position.
This record has clearly persuaded the powers that be at the Emirates Stadium that the 25-year-old is now ready for life in the Premier League, though his current employers are likely to fight tooth and nail to keep hold of such an important member of their back-four.
