All I Want For Christmas Is Goals

As we start to approach the end of the year and subsequent re-opening of the transfer window thought inevitably turn to incomings at the club. Given the problem we seem to have managing to get shots on target, never mind scoring as of late I think its a good time to see who is on our Christmas wish list (bar Henry).

1. Klaas Jan Huntelaar

The prolific Dutchman is approaching the end of his current contract with Schalke and all signs seem to be that he has no intentions of signing a new one. Available for a knock down fee of around £6 million he could bring the goals needed to fire us back into the top four. Struggled at big clubs Milan and Madrid but his goal scoring record speaks for itself.

2. Fernando Llorente

Another man whose contract will expire in the summer. The big Spaniard has scored goals for years at Athletic Bilbao and will be sorely missed by the club. Perhaps too similar to Giroud though.

3. Christian Benteke

The Big Belgian was supposedly tracked by Wenger through the summer but ended up at Villa instead. Powerfully built he is reminiscent of the young Didier Drogba that gave Arsenal defences so much trouble over the years. Would a bid be accepted by the club from the second city.

4. Darren Bent

While the villains may be reluctant to part ways with Benteke, the same may not be said of their record signing Englishman. Bent has found himself some what frozen out of the first team in recent times by Paul Lambert. May be a risk given his recent injury record but Bent is most definitely a proven goalscorer at the Premiership level.

5. Javier Hernandez

The little Mexican has found his first team chances slightly harder to come by this season due to the arrival of the Dutch Skunk and the continued emergence of the vastly overrated Danny Welbeck. Has a nose for goal like the Airport Security dogs sense for Cocaine. Give him a sniff and you will have the desired result. Would be my preferred signing over the Christmas period along with the man below.

6. Robert Lewandowski

The big Pole has been in sparkling form for Dortmund this season. Has declared himself a fan of the English game previously and is said to be good mates with a certain Polish goalkeeper. Come on Szcz, get tapping up.

Now I realise that people have been hearing about our supposed £70 million war chest( also what exactly is a war chest) and nearly every forum site features various Gooners urging the club to sign Falcao. We need to be realistic here though, there is not  a chance that the club will pay either the fee necessary to sign the Columbian (said to be starting at £30 million) nor the required wages. With Chelsea, Madrid or Barcelona rumored to be the clubs he himself is interested in joining should he choose to leave the Vicente Calderon we will not be able to compete. More realistic chances are held in obtaining some of the strikers listed above.

Whomever the club decide to splash the cash on will enter with an enormous weight on their back. This is the most pressure that Wenger and the board have been under in the entirety of the Frenchman’s tenure at the club. The right players coming in could steady the ship and get the fans back on side.

Over to you Arsene.
