Not £35m, Arsenal eyeing move for Serie A's £22m-rated as Cazorla replacement

According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal have marked AS Roma star Lorenzo Pellegrini as the club's midfield target after ending interest on Jean-Michael Seri.

Arsenal new boss Unai Emery needs to strengthen the core of our midfield since the exit of Santi Cazorla who rejoined former club Villarreal after seeing his contract with the club expired following an injury-plagued last two years.

Also in our midfield, Jack Wilshere is tipped to leave the club after failing to agree term over a new deal while Aaron Ramsey could also get sold if he doesn't sign a contract extension with the club that has just one year left to run.

All that being said, the Evening Standard reckons the Gunners are reluctant in spending £35m on reported target - Seri - leaving Premier League rivals Chelsea the front-runners to sign the Ivory Coast international this summer.

The tabloid says Emery has now turned his attention to Roma midfield Pellegrini as he has £22m on his reported release clause and looks affordable than Seri's £35 million asking price.

Pellegrini joined Roma last summer from Sassuolo but has enjoyed a brilliant debut season at the Stadio Olimpico and it seems the 21-year-old has caught the attention of Arsenal chiefs.

The young midfield does look a good a long-term replacement to Santi Cazorla and his reported £22m could be an absolute steal in today's crazy market.
