From France: Ligue 1 giants reject Arsenal's €25m bid for Bellerin's replacement

Arsenal were quite persistently linked with highly-rated Lille teenager Boubakary Soumare in January, and following a report on deadline day that a bid was made, comes further evidence from France that the Gunners made an approach.

According to an exclusive report by le10sport, Lille rejected a big bid from Arsenal for the midfielder in the final days of January’s transfer window. Arsene Wenger’s side offered an initial €12million (£10.5million) with bonuses potentially taking that all the way to €25million (£21.9million).

For a club with financial difficulties, this was a tempting offer for Lille to consider, but they stood firm and rejected it, with the thinking that prices could rise even more in the coming months and the summer window being more conducive to big sales.

Instead, Lille cashed in on Martin Terrier who joined Lyon for €11million (plus €4million in bonuses), turning down bids from the North London club for Soumare and Crystal Palace for Ibrahim Amadou.

It remains to be seen if the club will continue their interest and return with a new offer in the summer transfer window.
