Arsenal close in on £25m deal for ex-Manchester United player - " Manager wants to sell him "

Arsenal are reportedly closing in on the signing of Jonny Evans from West Bromwich Albion, according to reports. The former Manchester United centre-back was targeted by Arsene Wenger in the summer but the Baggies rejected an offer from the Gunners, as well as bids from Manchester City and Leicester City to sign the player.

West Brom are now open to selling him as Alan Pardew needs more funds for new signings this month. According to the Metro citing reports from The Sun, the Gunners are on the verge of agreeing a £25 million deal with West Brom for the Northern Ireland international.

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City are also said to be interested in Evans as the Premier League leaders wants to sign a new central defender this month, along with Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal. But it's Arsenal who are said to be leading the race for Evans signature, according to earlier report.

Last week, The Baggies boss admitted that there was a strong possibility that Evans would leave the club for the right place. He said as quoted via the Metro:

“I am conscious that if there are no funds available I might have to move something around.’ he said.

Pardew added: “I have always thought that you would be slightly naive in your job if you didn’t try to cover all the bases. “So there is a scenario that Jonny Evans might move. For sure I have looked at that. There is a scenario that Jonny doesn’t move. There is a scenario someone else moves."
