Arsenal Keen On £35million signing Despite Chelsea and Real Madrid Interest – reports

Arsenal have emerged as surprise contenders to seal the transfer of unhappy AC Milan defender Leonardo Bonucci, who has been reported to be on Chelsea and Manchester City's radar.

According to Spanish outlet Don Balon, the tabloid reported that Real Madrid are also interested in the defender but suggest he'll be too expensive for the reigning European champions, whilst listing Arsenal as prime candidate for his signature for the first time.

Bonucci has been one of the best centre-back in the world in recent years and the Italy international would be a statement signing by Arsene Wenger if the Frenchman could pull it off.

Laurent Koscielny, Nacho Monreal and Shkodran Mustafi looked out-of-form in Arsenal's 3-3 draw with Liverpool, and it's clear new defenders are needed at the back.

Per Mertesacker will also be retiring  at the end of the season, leaving Arsene Wenger short of depth in terms of quality options in that position.

Italian news outlet CalcioMercato recently linked Chelsea and Manchester City as the main clubs chasing the former AC Milan man, who has become unsettled at the San Siro after a perceived poor start to life at the club.

The centre-back was a shock summer signing from rivals Juventus in the summer, but Bonucci hasn't fulfilled expectations so far and the 30-year-old could already be set to face the exit door at the San Siro.

Fans would certainly love to see Arsenal challenging their rivals for big players such as this one, though they probably won't be holding their breath.
