Arsenal close to finalizing agreement to sign $52.9million Euro 2016 winner

Arsenal surprised everyone when they broke the bank to sign a creative defensive midfielder in the form of Granit Xhaka last year.

There are also stars like Elneny and Coquelin still plying their trade at the Emirates and the pair can effectively play in the holding midfield position. Having said that, it is believed that Arsene Wenger is still keen on signing Portuguese international and Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho.

The defensive midfielder was an integral part of the Portuguese team that won the Euro 2016 trophy.
According to reports from Portuguese outlet A Bola, it claimed the Gunners want to sign, who has also been reported to have a release clause of $52.9million with the Portuguese side, in the summer transfer window.

Carvalho is currently Sporting captain, who are leading the Primeira Liga table at the moment, three points Porto, who have a game in hand.

A Bola have mentioned that the Portuguese side want to sell Carvalho at the end of the season and for right price. Moreover, the Gunners want to reach an agreement with Sporting to sign the 25-year-old before the World Cup because after the tournament, Carvalho’s value could get skyrocketed.

The Portuguese source have further mentioned that Wenger knows he will have to table a reasonable offer (around 40 million euros) to secure the services of the midfielder. With the Gunners’ midfield currently loaded with midfielders in form of Jack Wilshere, Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey, Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny and even injured Santi Cazorla, it remains to be whether the reports of Arsenal interested in William Carvalho bears fruit at all.
